Basketball is now in full swing. Tournaments fill up much of November and December, and even though it makes for some long weeks and short weekend rest, I love the chance to be with some amazing young ladies.
To get the season started, we had a team (and family) cookout at a ranch outside of town. Here are some of the girls cruising on the 4 wheelers.
That same evening, I drove back to town and met up with the ladies for a ride at Sansom Park. Even though the ride was short, we had a great time and enjoyed the perfect fall weather.
Our JV team had a tournament in Glen Rose and made time to eat at Hammond's BBQ. We try to arrange our tournaments around towns with good eateries:) These girls are awesome and I love the opportunity to be around them and watch them grow and have fun being teenagers and teammates.
This Thanksgiving Laura and Urijah came to stay with us from California. It has been so fun getting to see them two months in a row. Urijah found one of Aaron's hats and did his big boy pose.
Urijah throws the ball to Blanco down at the park by our house.
During the week off of school, I made a quick trip down to my grandparents' ranch to hang out with them and my parents. My PawPaw was "witching" a well. It's the craziest thing to witness. He takes a "V" cedar branch and holds it upright. When he crosses where the water is, it bends downward with great force. He and my uncle both seem to have the magic touch. People actually pay my uncle to come find water on their ranch land. In the picture above, my grandad is figuring out how deep the well is. (I had never seen this done before). He holds a copper rod out that has a small weight on the end of it. When he stands over the waterline, it bobs up and down. He counts how many times it bounces, and that is how many feet deep the water is. Here it bobbed 105 times, then stopped. He did it several times and it was within a couple of feet the same each time. Away from the water, the weight doesn't move.
Of course I took my bike to the ranch. My mom has my old bike and has been riding on some paved trails. Here she takes it to the dirt. We got 2 rides in and had a blast. She's a natural and I hope we can try out some metroplex trails together soon!
After a day and a half in Junction, I headed back home in time to make it to our football playoff game. Laura, Urijah, Buzzy, Carolyn, and Andrew all got to be there to cheer on the Cardinals. Even though our boys came up short, they fought hard and had a good season.
The seniors and coaches pose for a pic. I'm thankful Aaron gets to do what he loves as well.
Just hanging out.
We celebrated Carolyn and Buzzy's birthdays. Laura and I had a little gag gift for Carolyn (Christmas slippers made out of maxi pads). Guess she didn't want to put them on at the restaurant.
